What to Pack for Your Paris Trip

When visiting Paris, it’s important to realise that the city has a tailored and chic style. If you wear sneakers, sweats, flip flops or UGGs, you’re going to stand out as a tourist. Often, Paris equals fashion and style. That doesn’t mean you need to worry about dressing up in the city. You can be casual and still be stylish. Skinny jeans are always a great look as long as they are clean. They can be paired with flats or boots for a comfortable style. Parisians love neutrals and blacks, so as long as you’re sticking with that colour palette, you will fit in with the residents.

When to Visit Beautiful Paris

The best time to visit Paris on vacation is during June to August, but unfortunately, this is also peak tourist season. It’s crowded and expensive. While you can save money with┬ávacation rentals in Paris, you’re not going to be able to avoid costly meals and travel within the city. Instead, you can visit in the fall or spring when it’s beautiful yet affordable. You should consider the weather when you pack too. In the fall and spring, temperatures can range from high 40s to low 60s.

French mealtimes differ from other countries. Lunch is often served between 12 p. m. and 2:30 p. m., while dinner is served around 7:30 or 8:00 p. m. Before leaving on your trip, make sure you research the restaurants you’d like to sample. You should make your reservations as far in advance as you possibly can. You don’t want to arrive in Paris to find that your restaurant choice is completely booked during your entire stay.

While you’ll definitely want to experience the city on foot, you can travel to further destinations on the subway or metro. You could also enjoy a scenic trip through Paris on a bus while a Batobus allows you to alternate between enjoying a day on the river with transportation or on the streets close to the river. Tickets for the bus, subway or Batobus are relatively cheap, and they allow you to travel like a local when in Paris. There are bicycles for rent too.

Paris has a reputation for disdain and rudeness when it comes to tourists, but that might be because they expect polite exchanges with others. The informal manners of other cultures are often considered rude by Parisians. You can learn a few, polite French phrases before visiting the city to help endear you to the locals. Please and thank you are two phrases that will serve you well with Parisians during your visit.

Before you travel to Paris, figure out what you’d like to do. If you want to visit the Louvre, make sure you know when it’ll be open during your visit and buy tickets online to save yourself some money. In some cases, a blanket pass to many destinations can save you more money than buying a ticket individually for each place. Buying passes early can help you avoid long lines too. This can be especially important if you’re visiting during peak tourist season.
